That is a LOT of bulbs, that is for sure. Are they all 36" 39W, or are they 4 footers? That might help a little....
I won't argue that Mike, the only reason I posted that is because of the amount of bulbs that he has. I really like the look that they give his tank in fact. I just am concerned about the cost of replacing 16 bulbs over time?

Kyle, what are the corals in your last photo? Your tank looks great. I'll bet it takes longer to clean than mine does.
From the look of it, he has a 6 foot tank and two 36" 8 bulb T5 sets over the tank. So, ultimately you can think of him having eight 72" T5 bulbs over his 72" tank. However, each of the bulbs would be 78W each (39 x 2). So, eight bulbs at 78W each, he'd be running 624 total watts.
All I know is...that looks damn bright. LOL
Can lights like that ever be too bright for most fish? I know there are some fish that require/prefer darker lighting, but for most fish, would something like that be too bright and cause and adverse effect on them?

If I can answer for him, I think he had to go to Spokane this morning. I think that we are looking at either a frogspawn or hammer coral in the front, and I believe it is a porites behind it. I can't really tell if it is or not. If it isn't porites, it is a finger leather.
The wattage doesn't matter, it is the PAR produced by the whole set of bulbs that is going to make things work.
I don't worry about it being to bright for the fish, that is why you build caves into your aquascape, so they can hide. If it is too bright, they shouldn't be in the system anyways.

The reason I asked about the corals is because I would like to have a coral of that sort in my tank but not sure if it would work with my system. Thanks for answering. You know I don't like to have to wait...![]()
Which coral Cyn? The euphyllia species is probably the best guage of what your water quality is. If you have goos water quality, hammers frogspawn, torch corals will tell you so. Do a little reading on that species, beautiful corals, and hardy if your quality is good. I really love them myself!!!!!
