I am a longtime user of Icecap and love them but I am Getting a New 120 in about 6 -8 weeks and Need some opinons on lighting please .

I will be keeping mixture of Brains,Softies/ Leathers , mushrooms , polyps and LPS , and most likely SPS and Calms in the future .

the Tank Deminsions are 48x24x24 , I plan on MH with VHO but I am unsure of what brand and Kelvin I should go with the MH since Icecap doesnt make 400watt Ballast that kinda puts me in a pickle

I was thinking PFO Also thinking 2 400 watt or 250 watt..plus I would have 4 Vho 50/50 ? or all 4 Atinics or a mix ? So I have some questions are PFO reliable ? DO the ballast get Hot to the touch or Just warm ? What K would be the best all around to use for the MH 10K or 6500K ? Also the lights will be aaprox 12" off the top of the water . any suggestions would be appreciated , I was running Icecap with 12k Sunburst and I liked the color but I don't feel the corals were happy IMO .

i have a pfo 400's with 10k and they look great with no help. you should be happy with them.
i do plan to add no or compact's for dawn/dust but will not run them with the hh

You might want to send an e-mail to Nanook01. HE just recently set up a 120 with HQI's and VHO, which he seems pleased with.
