Linking LEDs?
Hello everybody. Lately I've been looking to upgrade my aquarium lighting further. Right now its got three TAAM Rio 10 LEDs over it, and the tank is doing fine- the Tridacna I got several months ago has never looked better. The problem is that the lights only illuminate the area directly under the bulbs and it creates a spotlight effect in the tank. To stop this, I intend to buy another bunch of them to light the other areas too, but I'm constrained by outlet space.
SOOOO...My question is if there even exists a product that allows me to link multiple lights together so that they can all run on one or two plugs? From what I've found, the Coralife LED fixture has some sort of device that links multiple fixtures onto one plug, but I'm not sure if it might work with my brand of lights or if it even does the job I described. Thanks for the help. |

Re: Linking LEDs?
Are you thinking about something like a powerstrip??
The only thing about that is, are you going to over load your outlet? How big is the breaker that controls the outlet. It sounds like maybe you should add another circuit in there. I know the Reefkeeper 2 allows you plug in multiple light systems with the addition of a couple of power modules, but then again your tank room should have enough circuits so you aren't overloading anything. Know what I mean? |

Re: Linking LEDs?
That's something I want to do- add another power strip just for the lights. The thing is that my roomate is paranoid about so many plugs in a single outlet. Given, it's never a good idea to put too many plugs into one outlet, but these are LEDs- they don't put a huge load on the circuit. That's why I want to somehow put all of them on one plug- to respect the wishes of my roomate that I keep the amount of plugs and strips down. As a matter of fact, part of the agreement of me setting up my tank was that I keep no more than five cords plugged in at once (and I had to push hard to get that much)
Kinda don't blame him though- when he was young his house almost burned down due to an overloaded outlet. So, overall, I'm kinda in a rut, but at least it's a rut I'm getting through before something bad happens. |

Re: Linking LEDs?
However, I will admit my mistake of not locating the tank closer to another outlet. Seemed like a good spot at the time...

Re: Linking LEDs?
I think what you may want to do is get in touch with the manufacturer, and see what is compatible with what, if you know what I mean. Mixing components is sometimes a risky deal. What would be the problem with adding another fixture, the same as the one you have????

Re: Linking LEDs?
My surrent Lgihting system consits of three individual TAAM Rio 10s working in tandem. That's three plugs. Adding any more increases the plug count by however many fixtures I add.
I can't wait for the day I can go as gadget happy as I want. (grumble) |
