Talking Ahhhh! My Eyes!!!

I just bought the LOA 65 watt flood light for my five gallon! MY GOD! I think I will go with 4 of these for my ten gallon instead of the MH. It is cheaper and a MH bulb cannot possibly be brighter.

These lights are awesome. It is a very pure white light with a noticable blue tint. I am not sure of the K rating on it, but it does have some actinic qualities. There is absolutly no yellow.

This fixture comes with a built in reflector and a splash guard. The bulb is included too! All for $29.95 + tax. I could have easily spent twice that at AHSupply, which is still cheap compared to some...

Two is only loosely associated with two by a plus sign and therefore doesn't enter the equation at all since it is only there by mere complicity. We shouldn't count it and leave well enough alone.

lol Mark, I think the K rating is somthing like 6700.. I have one for my refugium. I'm waiting for my tank to mature a little more before I set it up.

I used the same light to cure the LR in my 150, along with 2x40 watt NO actinics, it lite up the 150 pretty darn good for 65 watts

Something to consider, there have been some reports on some of the other reef boards that the LOA 65watt fixtures may have an overheating issue, when used in non ventelated areas.

Enclosing them in an un-modifed in a hood may cause premature failure of the bulb or other overheating issues.

All that said, they throw a ton of light and have worked flawlessly for me so far, but I do have them mounted like a pendant above a couple of my garage tanks.

Yeah, I figured that the heat would be a problem so I installed a 4" fan. The tank temp stays around 75 - 80 degrees so I have to assume that the air temp is about the same.

I took pics of the hood but I haven't had a chance to develop them yet. As soon as I do I'll post them.

The shop light style fixture available at Walmart and Costco come in a white casing, have a wired cord and switch, and have a white Al reflector, costs around $25.
The outdoor style fixture available at Menards and some Home Depot come in a brown casing, must be wired and use a photo cell instead of switch, and have a polished Al reflector, costs around $34.
HTH, Bill.

it seems to me, you could put like 2 of these on a 10g nano tank and keep some sps corals

That's exactly what I have in mind.
