    Too much light?

Hi new to the forum i have a 55g with 40 pounds of rock live sand been running for about eight months now i converted from freshwater which i also had a 110g that i plan on turning into a reef tank funds funds funds but i bought a orbit lighting system for with two 250w halides and the four actinics and the leds. I'm in the process of building a new stand for my 110g two fit the refugium and the skimmer but i'd like to use the lights on the 55g to start colecting some things for my 110g i have them hung already about a foot and half off the tank is this too much for the tank and they are on timers how should i run them sorry so long and help appreciated thanks

Should be OK, I think you could lower them to a foot off the system. Worse comes to worse, you could always only run one of the halides.

I would run them around 8 hours (halides), and 12 for the actinics.HTH

Will the 110 already have water rock and sand in it? Thanx for the compliments!!!!! About the reading part, don't ever stop, the way things are changing these days, you have to read just to keep up. I am guilty of not reading enuf, but sometimes there just aren't enuf hours in the day.

Pardon my ignorance, but where in the heck is new iberia???

    Re: Too much light?

So, you plan on moving your existing sand bed into the new 100???? If that is the plan, I would only take the top 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Anymore than that, and you risk opening a large can of worms, so to speak. I think it would be better to just start with new sand, and take about a cup or 2 of the existing bed to seed the new.
How big is the new fuge?

    Re: Too much light?

seems that was the plan but if its a bad idea i'd like to know why i'm in no big hurry too set up the big tank till its right and the fuge i'm not sure on the size right on the 55g i'm running a 150g wet fry no bio balls with a skimmer and a mag drive 9.5 once i decide on the fuge i was going to double my pump flow and buy a better skimmer the one now is built in to the wet dry i'm running a cap 2200 i do 15g water changes every two weeks and really never had any probelms except a few fish caught by the overflow

    Re: Too much light?

Even in a tank that is 8 months old, you may have built up some real nasties in the existing bed. Moving and/or disturbing those nasties will probably cause the new tank to cycle again. If you move the sand bed before you move the fish, maybe 2-3 weeks, you may be OK, because you may do a quick cycle. You did say that you were going to be getting rid of a couple of fish right? I am finding it very hard to read your posts without separated sentences, you have to forgive me.
