HQI users question
Hi, I have had a pair of HQI 250w PFO mini-pendants for a few months now, up until now I have had no corals, but as I get ready to start stocking corals I am curious as to how high you mount your pendants and why?
I have mine about 12" off the water of my 120g tank, it seems that I get a nice spread that way. Is this too far over the water, will I lose PAR by keeping them elevated this far? My temp in my tank has ranged from 80-84 degrees with 2 Icecap fans, I was wondering that, if they needed to come closer to the water, if my temp would rise more?? Thanks, Nanook

id say lower it like 2 or 4 inches depending on what youd like to keep on the bottom?

I agree with Naser that you can probably lower them 2 or 3 inches without affecting the light spread or raising your water temperature very much. Anything closer than that will probably result in inadequate light spread and possibly increased water temp.

For greatest possible intensity, I keep mine about 4-5" off the water. But, for the best mix of spread and intensity, go for 7-10, depending on placement.

im stepping up to a dual 400 watt system.. i figure with 400 watts you can have them anywhere almost.. you know since i only have a 55 gallon reef...
