LOA lights

So these things are 65W floods by a Co. called LIghts of America? and they are sold at Walmart? and they are about 6700K or so....?
So one could use these and supplement with actinics for a reef tank?
They could also be used on a FW planted tank w/o actinics....? Is this correct? TIA

I haven't seen the one at Wal-mart, but I did see the flood light at Menards. Very bright with a blue tint. The flood light you have to wire yourself though. I have heard that the K on these is around 6700K. Does anybody know if this is true?

Thanks.

Shop light type at Walmart and Costco around $25, white case, wired cord, switch, white reflector.

Garden type at Menards and some Home Depot around $35, brown case, you must wire, photo sensor instead of switch, polished reflector.

Yes, they are very white/blue light. Althought they claim a 6.7k I think its closer to 7.5k color. Add a couple of NO actinics or 03's and they are pretty darn nice.

One thing to consider though. There have been several people on another reef board (that I ocassionally lurk on) that have complained of the lights overheating or prematurely failing. Good ventallation and less than a 12 hour duty cycle is recommended.

All that said I have three of the outdoor type hanging above my garage tank for a couple of months now with a couple of VHO actinics and they have preformed flawlessly.

Thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it, I think I have found what I want to light my planted tank with and my next reef tank. (I find tanks are more fun when they don't cost as much as a car.)
