I know that most prefer MH/VHO combination for reef tanks, but I am going to use VHO only. I plan to install 6 VHO tubes on 2 IC 660 ballasts. What brands/types of bulbs would you recommend?

Hi Jaten, welcome to Reefland!
![]() Most people use URI VHO fluorescent lamps: http://www.uriworld.com/PRODUCTS/mlam.htm For a reef tank, most people use a combination of Super Actinic and Actinic White. Since you plan on using 6 lamps, you might want to consider a combination of Super Actinic, Actinic White and Aquasun. It's mostly a matter of personal preference. What are the dimensions of your 150-gal tank? Ninong ![]()

URI bulbs
http://www.uriworld.com/PRODUCTS/mlam.htm I would run 3 aquasun, 2 atinic white and one actinic. How in the world did he post before me? Darn it and those highspeed connections. Last edited by Starmstr; 07-15-2001 at 01:39 PM. |

I would use 4 50-50 and 2 actinic. Or 3and 3. I prefer the 50-50 they have actinic also. I would only use what actinic you need to satisfy your eyes. The 50-50 are suppose to last longer. I would also change the bulbs after a year but not all at once like every 4 mo change 1-2 bulbs this will offset the cost also.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions! Hmmmm, thinking, thinking.
BTW, Ninong, my tank is what I believe is standard for a 150.....72(L) x 24 (H) x 20 (W) |

BTW, why is the time off by about 5 hours when I post? I have correctly set my profile to U. S. Central zone.
