Current 36" t5 Help

I have a 46 gallon bow front with a 36" current extreme pro 6 bulb fixture. I have a little mis understanding of how this fixtures shoudl be working. I'm using a coralife timer with it and right now i have set up to come on at 1pm and turn off at 9pm. When it cuts off the night nights come on and stay on until other lights turn back on at 1pm. I knwo this sounds stupid, but i wouldn't think that the fixture shoudl be 100% of the time. Do i have the wrong timer?

The timer has to cycle once through its cycle then it will work right.
