if you replace the bulbs and take of the cover, they would be fine. If not, the bulb is worthless (not a good kelvin rating). Just make sure you get the correct length. hth

There seems to be a wide range of opinions about these bulbs. On another bb, there are people that are using them and they say they are 6500K to 7000K.

the under cabinets are pretty useless, they are simple NO flourescents. I would not recommend them for use with photosynthetic animals of any type. For a FO they would be OK.

Well, it really depends on the wattage, but last time I was HOME DEPOT the only ones I noticed were the 18w, and that wouldn't really be sufficient for anything IMO, at least not without having a few of them. I think you'd be better off buying one (or more) of the 27w LOA floods, and gutting them. The NO would probably work, but I wouldn't want to risk it...

Look closely at them. The output is equivalent to 60 or 75 watts, but the actually watts used was only 15 - 20. I just came back from Wal-mart and was disapointed with them. The ones I saw were marketed as plant lights. The light diffuser lets the light go every direction but up. Fine for plants maybe, but not for an aquarium. The one at Menards was a flood - I think it used either 60 or 65 watts. Nice reflector on it but you have to wire it yourself. I saw one in use over a sump. It actually put out pretty nice color. White with a hint of blue. Out of the two, the flood would be the only way to go. I basically agree with everything that Perry said after actually looking at them and the boxes they come in.

One thing i have been wondering about these LOA fixtures for refugiums and whatnot. The bulbs are in actuality a 13 watt or some other low watt PC bulb. The one model i was looking at needed a power cord and was like 30 bucks. To me watts dont mean squat the bulb is the bulb. I think its a better and cheaper solution just to get a cheap 14.99 1x13 watt kit from ahsuppl with a 6400k bulb. Someoen correct me if im wrong but it sounds like people are getting to caught up in this watt thing.

its model #9266.i bought mine at hd,youll find them in the outdoor/floodlight section.great little light and fits over a 10g nicely(6.5 watts a gallon).i have heard at least one person say they stopped using it because of heat ,and it does seem to get a little hot,but i dont think it will be a problem with my setup.hth

the 9266 is great. as organicreefer said, it is a 65w 6500k bulb. I use it on a 10g and it looks incredible. and for under $40...words can't describe the feeling I havent had any heat poroblems at all and the light works like a charm. you could even drill holes in the enclosure (on top) for heat dissipation.

Oh ok i was looking at somthing different then. The ones i saw said equivelent to 65 watts or somthing but the bulb and the replacement bulb was a 13 watt PC bulb. Thats why i was confused because to me the bulb is the bulb.. and thats all there is.
