I think your best chance of getting someone who knows what he's talking about is to call IceCap and ask to speak to Andy.

thats cool billinpenna Ive just seen some bad wire jobs, its hard to figure it out when you cant get you hands on it, but im happy to help any way i can, if the black box is wired straight off the 120 cord before we get to the dimmer box then that would mean that the black box is just a constant on to more than likley a pair of icecaps.

Okay, I spent my lunch taking some detail photos of the wiring on my blackberry. Hopefully this will help and I can afford to lose a few lunches anyway.
Since the black box has two sets of 4-wire twisted groups, I'm going to call them set #1 and set #2. Set #1 is wired into an Icecap ballast harness and set #2 is not connected to anything - bare wires on the end and look clean, I doubt they were ever connected to anything.
The first photo shows set #1 wired into the Icecap ballast:
The second photo is a closeup of set #2:
Next is a shot of both sets exiting (entering) the black box:
And lastly is a shot of the inside of the black box:
Here's the colors of both sets of wires, and using a magnifying glass, some inscriptions on the circuit board next to each wire:
Set #1 (wired to the Icecap harness - color in parens is the color it is attached to on the Icecap Harness):
ORANGE - (ORANGE) DET |
RED - (RED) DET a
WHITE - (WHITE) AC-
BLACK - (BLACK) AC+
Set #2 (bare, unattached wires)
GREEN pef+
RED pef -
WHITE LED-
BLACK LED+ 250
The circuit board is inscribed with "Niche Engineering" along one edge.
Not being an electrical engineer, I have no idea of the signifiance (if any) of the script on the circuit board next to the solder points for each wire.
Hope this helps somehow.
Thanks for all the time you guys have given this.
Bill
