    retro fit lighting

    Good Morning All,

I am in the process of starting up a 90 gal. Reef set-up. I intend to house coral, anemones, invertebrates and fish. I will be utilizing T-5 lighting that will consist of IceCap 660 electronic ballast, individual reflectors, end caps and stands all directly attached to my canopy. This system is suggested by my local aquarium shop. My question is this; Is there any advantage to this type of set-up compared to a traditional fixture i.e., Nova Extreme Pro. etc.? My aquarium shop suggests that this type of set-up produces greater out-put. Is this correct and how is this so? Any and all responses will be appreciated.

    Hey there

The individual reflectors is the point here. I am not sure of the exact numbers, but they increase the output of the individual bulbs by quite a bit. For once, an LFS is not selling you a bill of goods.

Thanks for the response Charlie. Thats about how it was explained to me by the LFS. I'm re-entering the hobby after a 14 year hiatus and while some things have not changed too much, other areas of the hobby have. For the most part, I'm very happy with the improvements I see and I am looking forward to getting my tank going. I have been getting a lot of good info from the forum and you seem to know what your talking about. I'm looking forward to a lot of great conversations here.

    Thanks Again,

    Hey Charlie,
I very quickly discovered that part too. However, judging by the photos you submitted to the forum, it is also (the hobby) very rewarding.

    Thanks again,
