ugh need some help with lighting 35 gal

    Hi everyone,

I just started my tank back up a little bit ago and i am realizing that i do not have the lighting for coral support. Currently i am running 1x20w hagens power glo and 1x20w marine glo. The problem i have is my hood is a closed hood and i really like how it looks

Hagen Tropiquarium 88 aquarium, Fluval 4 plus underwater filter, theo hydor heater Hackney London house clearance

This is what i basically have. My problem is i really would like to get some coral. Does anyone have any ideas how i could jerry rig a new lighting setup with my current hood? Or if i could actually support some low light corals? (i dont think so but i am not the smartest when it comes to this subject)

You could probably keep mushroom anemones. I believe sun corals don't need much light, just need to be fed. Maybe some others on the forums know more about low light corals or have experimented with the amount of light you have.
If you can get into the hood where the ballast is, you can replace the ballast and run T5HO. Remove the existing end caps and replace them with the T5 versions. If you can't get into the hood (all sealed up or something like that) then you can't really do much for adding light. Maybe you can post a picture showing the underside of the hood. The store ad wasn't very clear about what was going on there.

There are many corals that are low light or non-photosynthetic that you could get.You should research them very well before trying them.As you research you will run across the different types, they require special care. Many of them are beautiful.

I will take a picture when i get off work tonight to show how my hood is set up.

i could probably replace the T8 to T5HO but how many would i need? i am also thinking of retrofitting two t5 bulbs in between the T8. Let me know what you think

Thank you again for your help
