Testing lights (lamp or bulb)

Is it a good idea to get a lux meter to test your lights?

I was thinking of this one:

I have always replaced my lights every year. I am going from pc's to T5 and thought a meter would be better than just replacing the lamps after a year or so.

Hi Micro402 ; I am curious to know what exact readings are at say every month to find out when you should actually change your bulbs . I think it is a good idea! Happy Reefing!!!!!!!!

Not sure about this, but I think a PAR meter is what you want. Reef clubs are known to pitch in and share one between all the members. One of the perks if you were to join one.

All of the information I've seen concerning reef lighting has primarily revolved around PAR so I think you're right Fin.
