    Marineland reef capable LED

Well i'm going to give this a try and see whats up. Purchased the 48-62" LED Marine capable from Marineland anyone out there currently using this? I have read alot of blogs about them but most of the opinions are from folks who aren't using them. So if u r let me know your results. Currently have T-5's but just wanted to give these a go. I have seen a tank at live aquaria FS in Wisconsin using this and they had a bunch of LPS and softies under it 125 gallon they seemed to be thriving and light quality looked good. My tank is a 72 gallon bowfront so depth isn't to much of a issue. Just want to keep softs and LPS like frogspawn, hammers, leathers and zoo's. Thanks

    Re: Marineland reef capable LED

I have the 24-32" reef capable on my 36g bow front, the lighting is awesome. Currently I only have a colony of polyps, but they seem to be doin' pretty good.

The only thing I didn't like, was my first set 4 of the lights started flashing on and off and then went out, but I did get a free replacement not even two days later with no trouble. This set I've had no problems with so I think it was just a bad apple

Thanks Baytib, appreciate the reply. If the light is insufficient, I can always still use the T-5's this is more of an experiment than anything else. I've heard alot of people claim this light or that doesn't produce enough light for this or that. A local fish store in the area uses nothing but compact flourescents for alot of their corals and they are just fine (have purchased some, no troubles). Yes metal halide are pretty much required for SP stonies but alot of large pulp and soft corals really don't need it and i've seen alot of them suffer under it. Especially mushrooms! So i'm going to go with this and i'm really optomistic since hopefully the hobby will eventually adopt these low energy lights, can't wait to get it! Will be delivered tomorrow. I'll keep everyone advized on how my corals do with it.

I personally think they are only good for shallow tanks. on a 55 with softies you might be able to get away with it but lps probably not and sps not a chance. these lights probably wont even be able to keep a simple frogspawn unless its at the very top. these are mainly made for frag tanks IMO
