    MH vs. LED

Hi, new to this forum. I wanted to get the opinion of everyone about switching from 3 x 250watt MH to LED's. I currently have a 72" x 24" x 30" deep tank and wanted to start turing it into a reef. I was interested in replacing my MH's with LED's. Do you think this is a good idea or should I just stick with my MH's?

Doesn't really matter what the cost is. I'm just looking for the best lighting for my reef tank.

IMO, for anything north of 26" tall, MH is still your best bet. LED's are not quite there yet in terms of matching MH's penetrating power. If you intend to keep SPS corals, you may even want to switch to 400 watt halides. It may be cheaper in the long run to change tanks for something a bit shallower, but if budget is not a concern, the higher wattage halides will do it for you.
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

You might consider the Orphek PR156. They have video of a 450 gallon tank that is deep. These penetrate all the way to the bottom with good par.
    Check it out.
