I bought a viper k-2 about a year ago love the light but my ballast is going out. I read I can just buy another one and wire it in. Can anyone shed some light on that and suggest a good 150w ballast to do it with if so?

You might be be better off contacting JbJ and see if they can help you with wiring in a new ballast. You may even be able to send it in and have it repaired for less than a new ballast would cost. I glanced at the owners manual on their website and they have a parts list with a separate part # for just the ballast so I'm sure it's serviceable.

Ah the catch I already did should have mentioned that. They are no longer selling this light, and guess what? They have no ballast available. I can send it in for service but I'm looking at almost two months with out a light. So that's the catch. I normally wouldnt mind but someone when stir crazy and spent a lot of money on coral. So I'm between a rock and a hard place.
Well.... that sux. Sorry I couldn't be much help![]()

No problem. I hope someone comes along that is more technically inclined than I am I'm sure I can tackle it myself I just need to know what to buy. I'm not sure if any 150w electronic ballast will work or if there are differences to watch out for.
I thought I read the k2 ballast was magnetic. Anyway, if its anything like basic electrical, all you would need is some butt connectors, heat shrink tubing with a sealer in it and some wire crimp pliers along with a diagram of what wires are what and you'd be all set.
Of course, that's coming from an auto technician that only deals with 12 volt systems so I may be off base there.

Honestly I don't know I thought I read it was electric but I think your right it may be magnetic. Does it matter either way if I buy a new one. I have everything I need to wire it so once I figure out what to buy i'll be good. Thanks for all the help so far
