Howdy All,
I just got a new Ushio 175W MH bulb as it was time for a routine replacement. The darn thing begins to fire when turned on but after about 30 seconds, it craps out completely.
Thoughts?
Bulb? Problem with the charging circuit?

Pulse or Probe start MH? You may have bought the wrong type. There are different ways that a MH fires.

Your cap could be old and not up to being able to fire the new bulb, its possible. You have a electronic ballast or magnetic?

The Ushio bulb I bought states this: "*Requires HQI ballast, electronic ballast or pulse start ballasts to work properly." (in VERY tiny letters)
I take it this will not work? What is HQI?

No badness here my friend. I'm still learning, so there are no "bads" to be had.
I bought the "wrong" bulb from Marine Depot, who exchanged it for another brand with no-questions-asked. I should see the new bulb hit my doorstep in about 4 more days. Hopefully all will be well and [cough] bright at that time.

Hey guys...this has been very educational for me, so thanks!
I've never run MH, but who knows, I might want to someday.

You know, I should add to the above post that 400w Halides are good for depth, and LED using 5w LED's will go that depth also.
