Just purchased new LEDs for my 125gal

I just purchased 2- 300watt LED units for my 6' long tank. The specs are

288pcs LED. Blue LED 460nm, white LED 14000k, 1:1 ratio

i believe these specs are similar to this unit. http://www.eshinesystems.com/300W%20...um%20Light.pdf

    has anyone else used these?

These lights are seriously BRIGHT! they are an upgrade from my 4-96watt compact fluorescents. The fish seem to love the transition, their colors are super sharp now. Most of my corals are also doing great with the transition, except for my pulsing xenias located near the top. they have receded to almost nothing. Is it possible this was due to the high intensity from the change?

Yes. Usually with that drastic of a change you want to ease them into the higher light.

i should have relocated them to the bottom. Do you have any idea if the PAR levels produced by these LEDs are sufficient enough for sps coral? I only have mostly mushrooms and lps.

also, are there any other changes i should make with using LEDs?

    Thanks

From what I can gather from the information about those LED's, you should be able to keep just about anything in that tank, Softies, LPS and SPS. The PAR readings on those at 23.6" is roughly 1138, and it diminishes as you go out in a diameter. Thats alot of light. No changes needed for LEDs other than acclimation periods, you should slowly bring those lights up to 8-10 hours slowly over a 2 week period. So like 2-3 hours the first day, and so on.

thanks for the great advice, i didnt think to start from as little as 2-3 hours a day.

this is a pic just to test it out, it completely shadows the power compacts. i now have it mounted 8-10 inches above the tank with room to raise or lower it.

Love the comparison photo. You can really see the difference and it makes you kind of excited to see how far aquarium lighting has come. Hopefully they become more affordable
    Best of luck,
    Matt

Re: Just purchased new LEDs for my 125gal

They are certainly much more powerful. However due to the increased intensity, I find myself cleaning the glass for (brown?) algae much more.

Is there much documented on LED units and coraline algae growth? I hope they will grow faster...
