    Second guessing LED vs T5

Ok if I choose to go LED over T5 for my 72 bow front then How much LED is equiv. to say 300 plus watts T5. I want a all in one fixture regardless.

Here's my plan for my 90.

    Lighting Plan for a 90G

I spoke to Ecoxotic about this too, and got Reefing Madness to weigh in. So that's enough for me. Anyway, I figure $1000-$1200 on the plan I specked out. Savings over time.

    Here's my reply from Ecoxotic:

    Dear Chris,
Thank you so much for contacting Ecoxotic and showing interest in our LED products.
For a tank of this size we would actually recommend using 3 Panorama Pro Modules on each side vs. two. When using LEDs with soft and LPS corals, we highly recommend adding a bit more blue 445nm wavelength for strong color enhancement. Adding one 445nm Blue Panorama Pro module to each side will provide this additional blue wavelength spectrum.
The Panorama Pro Modules are designed to be mounted directly onto a canopy with no issues. The Stunner LED strips would work great as a moonlight or for some color - but they normally are not strong enough to provide growth at the depth of your tank.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
    Sincerely,
    The Ecoxotic Team

I would love to see some comparison of the marineland reef ready led against T5s the price is not bad on this fixture. Also I am planning on leds when I set up my 150 cube.

Can't compare as if yet with reguards to color. The LED's don't have that color range yet. T-5, you have to many options on how you want your color to look in the tank.

I was of the understanding that the Marineland reef capable sytems were 1 watt LEDs not 3 watts and as such were not really suitable for corals. Am I mistaken?

Yes. The Reef capable one will work with tanks up to 18" deep. It has enough par.

I am skeptical about the marine land LEDs for a reef tank too. I am going with Ecoxotic and will build my own. I Would suggest - minimally- to take a peek at the Ecoxotic website. Pricey yes, but do the research.

They are getting there though. You can add some nice blues and magentas to your spectrum. I believe there are a few companies that lush yellows too

Cree are cheaper and have the same life span, why go Eco? There are many, many more Cree DIY out there.

So if I have a 21 inch deep tank and 2.5-3 inches of sand they would be fine?

I am not doing the full DIY route ... Ie soldering and wiring. I plan on purchasing the strips and outfitting them to a wall mount that is connected to a stand that will attach to the back of the tank. I do not want to run a canopy and I like the look that Eco offers. So in the end, just personal preference I guess.

Yea, you can still use it. Remember, not all your corals are going to be on the bottom. Your not going to be able to keep Clams though or sand dwelling Anemones. Keep the SPS and higher light corals in their prespective levels in the tank.

No. They will have the canopy mount system by first of the year. I will not be buying lights right now as they are not needed for the cycle so I have some built in time.
