I just bought a used tank with 2 175w MH and 2 96w pc. in the hood. I don't know much about these and was hoping for some feedback.

Depends on how big the tank is, wether or not they are great lighting for a Reef. But, the set-up is nice. the 96w PC are used for Actinics, or purple lights.
Are they small double ended lamps? ( that would be HQI Lighting ) or are they single ended biggish lamps? The MH I'm asking about. Halides are usually run on Reef tanks. I'd say you got a good set-up, not even knowing the size of the tank.
I have a 60gal. The pc are double ends. Im hoping these will do the trick. them seem like.they will.
If the pc are double ended, they are just flourescent bulbs. Pc bulbs have a single end. If you have a 60g with all that light, you will be able to put anything in there you want as far as corals go.
Am I going to need a chiller for these lights? If so can I wire up some computer fans to cool them off? I also had to order a ballest for the 96w. I paid $88 for it. Thx aagain for the help
Use the fan idea blowing across the water surface, this will keep the temp in line. I live in AZ, and it does mine just fine. I use Halides also.
I run 250 watt halides and I run no fans. Temp dont get above 80.6 and I live in AZ too

Ya got lucky then. I only run 175w Halides, and in the summer the temp goes above 83, so I installed the fans. My halides are above the tank water by 8". The fans keep the water temp at 79.
Mine are about 8 in as well. Guess I am lucky everyone scared me at first so stayed away from them for a long time. Now my corals seem to love em
