Just sharing my experience... I would 100% recommend using a dimmer when x-ferring lighting for corals from T5s or even MHD to all LED. And I am talking about the real LED units - if you are going for one of those Marineland jobs, you are on your own.
I recently upgraded my tank to all Ecoxotic Panorama Pro LEDs mounted to my canopy 13 inches above the tank. While they are (well, lets hope they will be) adequate in time, they do produce absolutely piercing onslaught of light that has simply been too much for a few corals. Having no dimmers, I was forced to reduce photo period / reduce units until the dimmers were available.
Just a word of caution to those looking to make the move.
