Could my lighting be the cause?????

Hi Aquarists

As you all know I have "just moved in" and was wondering if anyone out there has grassy green like algae growing on the back of their tank??? I do it looks like small tufts of sea grass. I also have the red spotty algae appearing....are they good.

I have a Mercury Vapour Light 400watts, which I leave on only for four hours now, coupled with a fluorescent light one white globe, one blue, which I leave on for 11 hrs plus per day.

Any suggestions or pointers out there.

My Chromis seem to like to have a nibble on the green algae stuff, it can't be that bad can it?

Green Hair Algae. To much phosphate in your water. IT is a bad thing, as it will continue to grow. Your lighting is another story, as Mercury VApor lighting is not the correct lighting is not the correct spectrum of light to use in saltwater. Your other lighting, may be old, may have a small part in your algae problem. 10 hours a day is a good number.
