lighting for a 90g

Hi,

My tank is 48x18x24...

I've been using 8 55w pc bulbs and would like to upgrade to MH. The only thing is the canopy is only 6 inches high (it has an open back). Otherwise I would have just stuck some Iwasaki's over the thing and be done with it. I've never had MH bulbs in a canopy that low, would two 175w bulbs be safe to put in there? Or even 250w? I know I would have to use fans.

The 175w bulbs wouldn't really do the job on a 90g, but I could supplement them with 220w of pc.

Thanks,
Stephen

This is exactly what is on my tank right now and is what I recommend....I Have NO heat problems...I have 2 4" radio shack fans and a custom hood....I have excellent coral growth...my 2 175watt MH's are liting 2 10k bulbs...and I have 2 110w VHO's one is 50/50 and the other is Super actinic....I should have made both of em superactinic though HTH

Thanks for the reply...I think that's what I will do...

Is your canopy 6 inches high?

Thanks,
Stephen
