Blue tinted PC bulbs

Hey all,
Recently I've started a 10 Nano reef using the components of my old 110gal tank. right now I'm using the single 15 watt NO bulb that came with the tank hood. I figure this is fine for the fish and LR. in the near future, I plan on adding better lighting.

Part of me wants to swipe one of the 175 12,000K lamps from my old 110, but I think they will sell better as a set with that tank.

Over the weekend I visited a couple LFS that sold MH, PC and VHO. I was intrgued by both a 2x32 premade hood and a 2x32 home-made hood. I've also seen the CSL 10K plus atinic setup. It looks like I'll be spending around $130 no matter which setup, so I wanted to get the best bang for the buck.

The Home-made setup used what I think were CSL bulbs that were 6700K with blue tint. It was a pleasing blue, but I was concerned about loss of par and lack of true atinic for the Coraline. Any thoughts on how this system is being hampered?

I was thinking of a similar setup, but using 10,000K bulbs and then a 15W NO atinic tube in the middle.
Or, an LOA (which would be cheap as I already own it) 65Watter with 2 15Watt NO Atinics.

I want a little blue, but not too blue. I liked the look of the 12,000K without atinics as an example. Any suggestions?

Yoho, I purchased a 2 X 36 retrofit from www.ahsupply.com. With shipping, the total came to $104. I made my own light hood using plans that they supplied with it. I think the two bulbs were 7100 k (possibly 6500) and what they refer as medium blue. I like it just fine. The plans they have is supposed to fit a 10 gallon.

lighting

HELP!!!
I just started a 125g. fish and some live rock. I've read posts about lighting. I was thinking about the cls cp smartlights. Then I read on A H Supply websight about their lights. They are 96W (2) bright lights. So I guess one would be blue and one white, but does it matter that they are not mixed and one halfd of the tank will have white and the other blue?
thanks

Jcolgan,

What are you planning to keep in the 125 G. Corals ? SPS or LPS, clams? Are the 96 W just for actinic supplement?

Those blue tinted PC don't fluoresce the corals like true actinic 03. That's the downside of it but I from recommendations of other reefers, I have decided to switch from power compact to VHO for better fluorescent of corals.

Yes it would not look to great to have one end of the tank look bluish/purplish while the other side looks whiter. If would rather get VHO lighting where it extends across such a big tank.

In my 125 I will have lionfish, etc and some live rock. I will not have corals. my goal is to have realistic looking water with cost as an obstacle. I now have traditional twin bulb fixtures on the tank and I wast thinking about puttin in one blue florescense in each side along with the white, but the fixture is rated for 2 30 watt bulbs in each side. What do you think?

thanks
