Hey Naser,
I think it depends on your aquascaping and choice of reflectors. The Spiderlight reflectors will probably give the best spread from what I've seen. The usual rule is one MH per two feet, which you probably know. The style of my aquascaping on my 120g is two pyramids of LR with a slanted opening in the middle of the tank. This area could be for low light clams or LPS and the SPS and light loving clams could go more underneath your 400 watters. Personally, I have three metal halides over a 120g tank, two are the PFO HQI mini-pendants and I have a 400w Iwasaki in the middle, which I don't like much. If you're starting from scratch, you can aquascape in a way to get the most bang for the buck with two metal halides. Also, optimal reflectors will go a long way towards spreading the light. Finally, if you have the room for VHO, you could add a couple of aquasuns and a couple of 03 actinics, that would even out the light a bit more in the middle of the tank. Nanook

it was going to be a shark tank. then i realized id be maintaining 3 tanks then. fish. reef and a shark. so me and my girl talked about it and decided on one big reef. it has two small cross bars of glass. there not too bad when you see them.

You might get good coverage with two 400's. I have a single 400 watt Iwasaki in the middle of my 4 foot 150. its as high as can be mounted in my 12" tall canopy and covers the tank pretty good just by itself.
FWIW,I also run a 250 watt double ended HQI on each side of it |
