172g Oceanic Bowfront plumbed into a 300g and 100g in basement, 3x250w 10k AquaSpacelight on Main Display, 2x250w AquaStarlight on 300g stocktank, 2 Iwaki 100 RLT's for returns plumed into a 100g stocktank sump, Aqua Medic T5000 Dual Skimmer, Aqua Medic T5000 Calcium Reactor, Aqua Controller II Pro, and running Red Sea 250ml Ozone generator.

Reefhead
Do you have something protecting the bulb from splashes?
If so then 4" is fine.
Even at 9", my Wrasse has caused one of my bulbs to explode. Picking glass out of the tank is not easy.-Todd

I have a pendent, the bulb is recessed about 3in

Depends on the bulb. I have my 250w ushio's at 8" while my 400w I run at about 14".
