Lighting for 65g (Metal Halide)

Hello everyone!

I have finally got a very good price on lighting for my 65g tank! I plan on keeping a variety for different corals from soft to hard. I don't want to keep clams. Does this setup sound good to you!

Dual 175w halides with 10 000k bulbs

I also with use my NO flurecente for dawn and dusk.

Please let me know your advice.

thanks

That might be very good or it might not. Read my comments about 175w 10,000K metal halides in this thread: Sanjay's latest light tests

Which brand of 175w 10,000K metal halide lamps are you considering?

175 10k,s are dim for some reason compared to a 6500k bulb. I had a 175 10k over a 65 and changed it with in 1 week to 2-250 watt 10k's. The 6500 Iwasaki's are good bulbs and I have 2-400 watters over a 120 gallon. They are intense and actually fairly reasonable. For a few extra dollars for the ballast I would recommend 250 watt bulbs anyway.

mrok12, what we perceive and what the corals perceive are two diffrent things. Just becasue we think its dim, it may not be to the livestock. We also are more senstive to yellow/green (we think its brighter).

Now you may have had one of the bulbs listed in the Marine Fish 2002 annual that are noted as being very weak and or dim.
