I think I made a mistake on MH
Hi there,
I bought a PFO dual 250w metal halide system...but now I'm thinking it might be over kill for my tank. The tank is only 36" long X 20" high X 18" deep, it's a 65 gallon. It might be too much light!!! What do you think??? I will be using the MH with my 2 No lights.... Please give me your advice!!!! Thanks Wildcat |

It's a lot of light but not actually too much light. You will certainly have enough for SPS and clams and much more than enough for most softies. But most low light corals can adapt to high light levels if properly acclimated. You may need to raise your lights a bit to avoid heating the water too much.
You have more light than most people for that size tank but there is really no such thing as too much light until you get into at least multiple 400w metal halides over a tank the size of yours. If it makes you feel any better, Hilo Jack has more than 2200 watts over his 54-gal corner tank. And he has extremely colorful SPS.Ninong ![]() |

I think it will be O.K. so long as you have some nice fans to cool the tank. Or you can have a huge sump to increase the water volume you have.

Man....I feel better now. I thought I made a big mistake! I could always use only on of them...the halides are seperate in the ballast. I do have a 20gal sump, maybe that will help and i also have 5" fans on etheir side of the hood...That should help!
I do have one more question for all the people out there!!! What kelvin bulbs should i get??? I was thinking the 6500k Iwaskis (I think that's how you spell it). That's it for now! Happy reefing!!! Thank you everyone!!!! Wildcat |
