Post Metal Halides with VHO or PC's?

    Hey All,
Got another ? for all of you. I've got my lighting pretty much figured out, 3 Iwasaki 250watt Metal Halides 6500k, and I need to know what I'm gonna use for the Actinic Lighting? I was thinking about doing 2 72" 10k PC's but I couldn't find any so I was thinking about going VHO. What do you all think? If I went VHO would it effect the power bill more then the PC's?
    Thanks Once Again!

    LOL.
    72" PC?

Anyways go with VHO actinic because it fluoresce your corals much better IME. I run two 72" VHO with my Iwasakis and it looks great.

In terms of electricity, you can probably do about the same as PC if you run an electronic ballast such as icecap or hellolights VHO ballast.

After runn multiple different configurations of 65k's both old and new styles I'm at the point I plan to ditch the vho's all together! I'm not so sure that the "look" vrs any benifits or electrical consumption is worth the electrical/replacement bulb cost.

Well I've got my lighting figured out, but I still need to get the hood down. I don't want to pay all the money for a already assembled one... So anyways, anyone know any good DIY MH and VHO hood sites?

What size tank do you have your lights over? Mines gonna be a 125....Also, did you build the hood, or did you buy it pre-made?

    Marinekid,
Mine is also a 125,I had someone build the canopy for me.Then I ordered the lighting components from
marine depot and assembled them myself you can see a picture at this thread

    http://www.reefland.com/cgi-bin/foru...&threadid=6519

The only thing I have changed was putting some white reflectors behind the mirrored reflectors.
And I will add some fans roday or tommorow.
I can E-mail you some completed pics if you would like.

On the SpiderLight reflectors, where did you buy yours and how much were they? I saw them on Jeff's for 60$, I didn't think that sounded that great though...

    Marinekid,
My canopy was made buy a local cabinet maker. He
charged me about 225.00 My oceanic was 1500.00
That included 55 gal sump, stand, iwaki pump, and
two overflow boxes constructed and drilled.
The tank is two years old but never used. I also got a oceanic protien skimmer also
The reeflectors I purchased from marine depot they
were 52.00 each and they came with the mogul base,
mounting bracket and a 8'quick disconnect cord.
    Hope this helps,
    Ryan

thanks Ryan! I'm thinking about building the stand and the canopy myself, hopefully it turns out nice
Anyways, do you have any corals in your tank yet? If you do what are you keepin and how are they doin?
One more thing.....on the reeflectors and the SpiderLight, do they give off the same amount of light, or is one better?
    thanks again!

    MK,
I apologize I dont know why I said reeflector.
I got the spiderlight. They seem pretty awesome.
I think you need three for a 6' tank even though
they say two is enough. Maybe if you put them very high two would be enough coverage. I dont have anything in my tank yet, waiting for the salt to clear up right now.Just added it yesterday.
