depending on watts and ballast. i would opt to try AB bulbs. they had 110par and iwaski has 130par on the same ballast= magnetic. AB bulbs before Ushio for intensity=10k. iwaski are good also with actinic= most par. The AB seem to have alot of par for 10k bulbs. Dino on the 250w but 400w Ushio had 99par on magnetic. Ushio is still a good bulb. Alot of par compared to most of the rest 10k. But not more than AB

For the 250w, for sheer intensity, the Iwasaki is the way to go in my opinion. If you were using a 5500k lamp, I am sure that you have a standard magnetic ballast. Now if you want the best combination of color rendition/PAR out of the lamp, most people will say that the Aqualine, or the Ushio is better for ya. The 250w 'zaki is not as yellow as the 400w, and will look good without too much actinic, but the 10k look is tough to beat.

![]() Anyway, AFAIK Sanjay has not published any test results on the 250w AB-10000 lamps, DE or mogul base. He did test the Ushio/BLV 250w 10,000K HQI DE lamp 4 years ago, which is the test you are thinking of. At various times he has tested the 400w Ushio 10,000K lamp and the 400w AB-10000 lamp -- the 400w AB-10000 tested considerably higher in PAR than the 400w Ushio 10,000K lamp which may be where the idea is coming from that AB-10000 (which is really 13,000K) lamps have more PAR than Ushio/BLV lamps. http://www.personal.psu.edu/faculty/.../aquarium.html
