Can there be too much lighting?

I am running 3 110 watt VHO's and 2 175 watt Metal Halides. 2 VHO's in Actinic and 1 in Aquasun. The Halides are 10,000 K. I am running this over a 55 gallon tank- everything is growing great! What do you think about this combo?

There can be too much lighting, but I wouldn't worry with your setup. You have enough for most animals, although placement of things like clams and certain SPS is going to be limited to the top of the rock you have in the tank.

There are many people who have 800+ watts of HID light over a tank that size. Generally, if you can keep the tank cool, and aren't running a buncg of 1000w lamps, you aren't going to get to the "too much" point in lighting.
