opps I meant write more......
See I already have 2 Icecap 660's. And I was goiing to get a ABstarlight w/ 2 150HQI's & moon bulb in a 48" fixture(about $600 ) and use the Icecaps for atinic (Between 2-4 60" bulbs)Ok see I want to be able to keep some sps, and a couple clams along with lps, etc. My tank is 60"L x 18"w x 24"tall but I plan to have a 4-6" DSB so the depth will then be only 18-20" deep. Do you guys think I would be OK if I just run 6 60" VHO bulbs which would give me a total of 840w (maybe I could cram another bulb in there. Please tell me whatcha think mark |

Mark,
You already have VHO's so why not put them to good use with a couple good MH's. I suggest you go with a couple PFO reflectors and two 250 watt Iwasaki's. You'll be able to mount the MH's and 4 VHO's in PFO reflectors.... You will probably be able to keep SPS and clams with just VHO's but I don't advise it. Its not the best. |

VHO works nicely to a certain degree but when you get into 6 bulb setups you have to wonder is it worth it. The answer is probably not when you are setting up a new tank. Golfish offers a good and cost effective alternative if you want to start off with enough light that you aren't contantly thinking about upgrading down the road.
