hello all....
I am getting some 250w halide's and I am wondering how long I should run them for the first time?? I only have 1- 40 watt actinicwhite and 1-40watt actinic blue. I am new to the hobby so and help I can get I REALLY appreciate. How long should I run them and how close should I put them to the top of the water?? Thanks Matt![]() |

Well starting running time will depend on if there is any thing in the tank allready. Since there is only a single light I am assuming you dont have any corals in there yet. If so then start at like 3-4 hours aday and turn it up like a half hour every other day till the light regiment you want is reached and there you go.
Halides are made to be place 8-12" above the water surface with 10-12 being prefered for best light distabution and also helps keep it from over heating your water. You will need to watch your temp because halides tend to heat up the water. If needed add a couple 3-4" fans to help circulate the air in and out helping keep the tank cool. |

I agree with tendar. Acclimating slowly is the way to go.
