Post Actinic Blue light

Can you keep the Actinic blue light on during acclimation?

Can the fish tell that the light is on?

Thanks

I think fish can tell if the actinics are on. But I suppose it depends on how many watts of actinics we are talking about. On my 120 I have 2 250watt metal halides and 4 110watt VHO actinics. The fish are very lively when the halides are on. When the metal halides turn off and just the actinics are on, they do slow down the speed at which they swim at and even more so after the actinics go off. But that is 440 watts of actinics.

What are you acclimating? Fish I assume? The best way to acclimate fish is with all the lights off. You probably will want to have the lights off for at least 30 minutes before acclimating the fish so the fish in the tank slow down and aren't so aggressive. Of course, this depends on the fish being acclimated and what kind of fish are already in the tank.

Can I run the actinic blue all day and night? Will it cause any problems?

Thanks

How many watts of actinic light are we talking about here? Fish do need to rest. So unless it is a very small amount of light just enough for viewing, I would say no. Here is an example:

Check out the aquamoonlight towards the bottom.

Fish can see actinic, its red they can't see. Meny inhabitants will use blue just like white and some prefer it.
