I'd like to hear from anyone running this combination - specifically 2 Aquasun & 2 Actinics or 3 Aquasun & 1 Actinic. What problems are you having, what are you growing and how long do you go before replacing them? I'm looking for 55G because my LFS is suggesting I have too many watts per gallon and that VHO is not as good as MH.

AAAAhhhahahahahaha,
First rule, LFS talk out of their respective know nothing pie holes. I wouldn't liseten to an LFS if he held a gun up to my head. Yours can probably make more off the MH than the VHO's and that's why the suggestion. VHO's are perfectly good for a huge range of reef keeping. It depends on what you want to keep in there. If you go by the logic that all reefers eventually go to SPS, then by all means get the MH if you have the $$ to put down. If not, the VHO's will probably run you a little less (see hellolights.com or premiumaquatics.com or marinedepot.com or any of the other online suppliers) and work well enough for you to keep, leathers, zooanthids, shrooms and a bunch of LPS's. Too many watts per gallon good one! Didn't realize that man made light was now stronger than what the sun provides....oh and you Lux experts, I know I know a 400 watter over a 10 gallon tank produces more lux than the sun, so what....that's not what I'm saying. UV protect most (and I said most stuff) and it will most likely adapt (if it could adapt at all). |
