Metal halide question
Hi Ya'all
I have a 125 gallon tank, 18" tall. I have 2-250watts metal halide's in a custom reflector hood. How far should I mount the hood above the tank? So I dont have a problem with heating.....???? Thanks Matt![]() |

Matt,
That's a tought one. Most manufactures recommend 8" and that's what I would suggest. But if your putting the bulbs in a hood that sits on the tank then your going to probably have a heat issue, maybe. Make sure you have lots of fans and keep the room cool. |

Hi Matt,
You should make sure that the canopy is 12" - 14" tall from the top of tank to inside top of canopy. This will give you your 8" min. If you install 2 - 4" fans, one on each end with them blowing out, this will help a great deal with the heat. That is what I recommend to my customers. Glenn www.aquarium-stands.com |

ive noticed that if the canopy is 11 inches tall. the mogul socket brings the bulb to the perfect 8 inches..

Yes that is about right with alot of the MH's. With the slightly taller canopy, this helps out with preventing the heat transfer to easily. The height along with 2 - fans is what I would recommend.
