What do you guys suggest?

I have a 75g with 2-250watt 65k & 4-55 watt actinics.I would like to replace the compacts with VHO. What would you guys suggest?I was thinking about 4-46.5 inch 110 watt superactinics.Do you think this would be a little overkill? The reason I would like to replace the compacts is because they never really took the yellow out of the halides & they also keep burning up the ballast.

Thanks

I have a 75 gallon as well and had 2-175 65's and 2-55watt p.c. actinics. I tell you what I did. I was never happy with the p.c. supplimentation<sp so i upgraded to 10'k halides with 2-110 watt v.h.o. actinics. The 10k's gave a much whiter look than the 65's and the v.h.o.'s do a much better job of adding the actinic IMHO

mrok12-The extra halides would be great but I already have problems with heat.During the day I can't keep the tank under 82.5 now.I have my halides 10inches off the water with 2 4inch fans in the canopy.I don't think I could get away with adding 2 more halides with out getting a chiller.

LzySupplication-I was thinking about getting 10k's when it came time to replace the bulbs but I keep hearing that the 65's are better for the corals(closer to real sunlight? )If this thinking is wrong please let me know.

Thanks for your help

I have 2 4 inch hamilton fans and 6 - 3 inch fans in my hood. I also bite the bullet and keep the ambient temp at 75 degrees. I guess I love halides!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have read that as well before about the lower kelvin being better.IME though when i installed the 10 k's i noticed faster growth rate on clams and the other corals i had at the time so honestly i cant say if its 100% true or not, but ive found over the years that theres hardly anything thats 100% reliable from system to system.
