Vho
Hi all, I run 4 VHO(1 blue and 3 white) 18" above my 75gal reef.I am trying to keep SPS. Im not sure I have enough light. 2 acro heads that have been in the tank for over 3 months are showing signs of turning white from the base.I add Bionic and feed daily. Id like to get halides but cant afford them at this time.Should I lower the hood? You can see my reef at www.geocities.com/josie521 thanks.

Hi josie521!
You have a nice looking tank with some great brains! How long have you had them?
Anyhow, 18" above the surface is quite high for VHO; in fact that would be high for MH! Lower them to 4-5" and you may see some better results with not only your acro's, but other corals as well. What type of whit ebulbs are you using, the 50/50's or aquasuns? Regards, Scott Z. |

I agree completely I have 2-110watt v.h.o. actinics and 2-175 watt10ks less than 5 inches from the water surface.Changing the distance from the water surface alone should help alot.I have seen alot of sps v.h.o. only tanks do very well in the last few months

Thanks my tank has been set up for 3 years. I run the URI super atinic and atinic white. Those brains are almost 3 years old. The SPS are theonly things new to the tank.

Josie,
What did you decide on your lighting? We run 6-110W VHOs over our 75RR. The bulbs are about 4-5" off the water. Our Acro and Montipora growths have been huge lately. The addition of the calcium reactor didn't hurt... Doug
