    www.aquaticlight.com

hey guys have any of you been to this site or bought things from him. I spoke with him on the phone and he seems to know what he is talking about but the brand of the MH's are never mentioned on the site. What do you guys think, does it really make a difference. His prices on retrofit kits are unbelieveable.

    Thanks Jeff

I am sure the lighting will work for you considering it's just your basic enclosed ballast and mogul socket. You shouldn't get the 12K bulb advertised though because if it's any thing like the 12 K sunburst, it's not good according to those who used them.

I would personally just buy a nice setup like PFO or Icecap MH instead considering it looks a lot nicer.

Or if you want to do it the cheap way, you can also look into buying the lighting stuff separately which looks like what aquaticlight is selling.

FCan Ballast 175 W at HERE
    $47
    Mogul socket at http://www.hellolights.com/mogulbase.html
    $10
Three prong power cord at home depot
    $5
So your cost would be $62 +shipping?

Yes, a lot of people have purchased those, but just about all of them have purchased them with the 12,000K lamps, which causes the price to more than double. And don't forget to add in the cost of a reflector, if you need one. I wouldn't recommend the 4300K lamps or the 5500K lamps for a reeftank.

You can do a search of the boards for information on their 12,000K ALS SunBurst lamps. These are imports from China. The consensus is that the color is "pretty" but the PAR is very low. Also, there have been a lot of reports on the boards of these lamps suffering from manufacturing defects leading to premature failure. The company seems to be very good at replacing these lamps that fail early, no questions asked.

Besides the suggestions made by dattack, you might want to also check out Sunlight Supply, Inc. for reasonable prices on components. http://www.sunlightsupply.com/ You can check their site for the name of a dealer near you or an online vendor.
