I am thinking of upgrading my actinics to VHO and Icecap ballasts so that I can add some small SPS frags and a small clam.
Is this a good idea?
I guess so, but I don't know if the expense of the change is really worth it for the little difference it will make.
Is my current setup okay for SPS or clams?
Sure, just place your SPS specimens in the top half of your tank and in the central section under the metal halide. Same for any T. crocea or T. maxima clams.
What is correct icecap ballast model to use for (2) 24" tubes? the 430?
Yes.
Will this upgrade help with Sps and Clams lighting needs?
Yes, but you can get by with what you have. If you were just setting up your tank, I would say go with a 250w 10,000K (preferably double-end) metal halide with VHO actinic supplementation.
