Cheap Light for a cheap refugium

Hi All,
I have an old Pengiun Mini H.O.B Filter that I have from my freshwater days. I was wondering if I could now use it as a place to keep some of my macroalgae in one place. But as for lighting.....
Could I go out and by one of those small cheap desktop lamps that have those really strong light bulbs to attach over this filter?
Macroalgae only needs a lot of light right?

THanks for the help,
CaptK
