I prefer the Aqualine bulbs. I used two 250W AB 10000k bulbs powered off a PFO Dual HQI ballast supplemented with three 110W VHO actinics.

The 10000k AB bulb is a mogul based bulb. Yes, I fire it off an HQI ballast.

Thanx, guys, still am wondering if I shuold go with two 250W Radium with 4X 55W 10K PC or two Ushio and actinics. Mmmm.... The Ushio with actinics looked blue, me like it.

MtnDewMan, didn't you post a pic of this 250W Radium you got?? It looked really blue in the pic, did you have actinics on at that time?? Are you using that bulb or you gave up??

Yes I did experiment with at 20k 250W bulb, but did not give it a chance at all to break in for 100 hours. I basically gave up on it right away as I didn't want to mess with a good thing I had going already with my current lighting.

Here is the link to that thread comparing the pictures I took ...

10k vs. 20k Experiment (Pics)

The 10000k bulb on HQI is more intense yes. I have tried the HQI ballast as well as the standard ballast and definately get better results using the HQI ballast, both coloration and growth.

And yes, that Radium was very very blue ... but probably would whiten up after a breakin period.

The Radiums take about 8 days to turn whiter. IMO they look a bit dim compared to a 10,000K bulb on a HQI ballast. My favorite look so far is a 10,000K and 20,000K mounted side by side. The color blends nicely.

Regards,
Kevin

see my 120 is 6 feet.... thats what thru me off. i tried two 400's on a 6 foot tank and no way did it cover it.. four feet would be nice.. you should go with vho's though.. i think youd be happier with the different colors. like aquasun, 50/50 and atinic... you have more room to change. lets say two radiums. blue right. well then you add a aquasun and a 50/50? the combos are almost endless...
