Another ????

I'm planning on buying a 120 All Glass in the near future with dual overflows. I just bought a dual 400 watt PFO MH ballast and currently have 2 Blueline 175 watt metal halides. My plan is on putting all four under a canapy I will build with each light having its own reflector.

What color temperature bulbs should I go with on the 400 watters?

I plan on using my Ushio 10k bulbs for the 175 watters.

Which combo will look good and give best coloration and growth?

I 2nd that! I saw your other post Chris....about the 20k ushios, im sure those would be just as good. I dont think there are too many ppl that have tried the 20k ushios....I didnt know they where out even. I do know that the makers of Iwasakis (eye) have came out with a bulb that is supposed to be comparitive to a radium too, but I think they are only in Australia still, not in the US yet !? Either way i think the 20k Ushios or the Radiums will be great....just make sure you get the right ballast to drive them and dont be greedy and try to overdrive them or you will find your bulbs lifespan probably lasting much less then they should. Please keep us posted especially if u get the 20k ushios

I'm using 10,000K and 20,000K mixed 400Wers on my tank and I love the color. I drive the 10,000K bulbs with a regular PFO ballast and the 20,000K bulbs with a PFO HQI ballast. On a regular ballast the Radiums looked too blue and dim for my tastes. I have started using the 20,000K just recently (after 18 months with just 10,000K and VHO's). I am getting some really nice color changes in several of my SPS corals from them.

Regards,
Kevin

Pulse Start

Well I am going to reject the shipment of my PFO standard Dual, and am having them send the Pulse Start ballast.

Might as well do it right the first time It's only about $20.00 more.

Maybe I am the odd ball, but I would run a couple of the Ushio 10k 400s, and then also a couple of the Venture 10k 175w (the venture are a bluish lamp that would be nice for supplementation).

I am not a big fan of the Radiums though....

Currently have on our tank at work 2 10k 250w lamps, and a Ushio Blue 400w....and its still a little too blue for my taste, although the coral are responding well to it.
