Salt Spray
Salt spray develops on our bulbs or in my case, the glass shield in a lot of instances. How often do you clean this off? Does teh satl spray effect the intensity of the lighting to any degree?

My first reaction to this is to keep the salt spray off some how....try to eliminate the spray somehow or atleast minimize it....I clean my bulbs once every 2-3 weeks....Yes salt spray on the bulbs will affect the par immensely if it builds up IMO. You could use a shield for splash but if your serious about your par I wouldnt do that....you paid for that killer light get your moneys worth out of it. One time I let my bulbs get encrusted w/salt spray so long and forgot about it then cleaned it one nite and within a couple of days my corals started bleaching out, Im almost positive they got adjusted to the lower levels of par and then when I cleaned the bulbs it was like going from a 175w to a 400w bulb. Also make sure your bulbs are completely cooled before you clean them or else they WILL crack.

That is what I thought but didn't know for sure. The glass UV shield on my pendent is getting pretty crusty and I am going to clean it, I was just wondering if I should do it more often due to the build up decreasing the light intensity.
Thanks for the insight, |
