Lighting a 20g Tall.....

Hi, right now i have 2X55w pc's over my 20g but i want to step it up to metal halide.... i wanna try out some sps stuff....unfortunately i have no experience w/ mh or sps (only have 1 sps) so i dont know what i should get. i'm looking for something already made preferably...nothing DIY....my 2X55's are diy and my mom keeps whining, for lack of a cleaner word to use, about how they are going to start the whole house on fire....so something encased is what im looking for. thanks for your help folks.

how about a prism pendant from custom sea life? it has a MH and 2 PC's. i have a 15 gallon high with 2-32W PC's and 2-15W NO fluor. that contains only sps corals and they do great with that lighting. i prefer the fluor. actincs over PC actinics though. put the two side by side and the PC's look turquiose. i had only PC's first, but added the NO's later. corals, coraline, all life in the tank greatly improved.

if your mom thinks PC's will burn your house down, she won't like the halides then. go here to see the pendant:

www.ffexpress.com has them for the following prices.
CSL pendant

175W - $480
250W - $510
400W - $540

you may be able to find them somewhere cheaper, i don't know. CSL doesn't sell anything to consumers, you have to get their stuff from a retailer. that's why you didn't see a price on their site.

or if you don't want actinics in the pendant, you can go with a pendant from www.premiumaquatics.com starting at $280 for 175W:
pendant only
hope this helps

you should be able to keep what ever you want. any coral will love MH. you may want to place animals carefully though. like giving some partial shade to mushrooms, stuff like that.

pendent if ya need one

fishguy_8,

I have a metal halide pendent, no bulb or ballast(just the pendent) I gutted it and re-wired outside of pendent. It is black bell shaped pendent and made by Hamilton. All you would have to do is buy a halide and mount it inside to hang from the ceiling.
I live in Glendale Heights and would be willing to trade ya for something small if you need it. Maybe a few snails, or a frag or two.

Let me know,
Paul

You can e-mail me at pguy6944@wideopenwest.com if you want the pendent. I've also got a handle full of frags, mostly softies.
let me know.
