MH Bulbs

I'm looking for Opinions, I've searched the board and found the Sunburst bulbs to have more negative then positive. So they are no longer a consideration, but I'm 50/50 over the Ushio 10,000 K and the Hamilton 10,000 K bulbs.

I have not found a place to buy the hamiltons yet either but I have seen pictures of tanks lit with them and I like look of them.

Right now I have PC's 2 x 55 10,000K and 2 x 55 actinic 03.

I want to add some SPS and clams hence the switch to MH, but I want to keep the look I have now (or close to it) using only MH bulbs.

Any Ideas will be greatly appreciated, as well as recommended places to buy the ballast reflector and bulbs. dual 250W with a "spider light" type reflector

thanks for the help,

Mike

Hi Poseidon!

Ocean Encounter, a sponsor of Reefland has some specials running on different halide set-ups right now. If you choose a DE setup, go with the IceCap or Sunlight Supply ballast with a Reef Optix III pendent and AB bulb. The AB bulb has a tad more violet color over the Ushio.

Here is Ocean Encounter's website:

Be sure to tell them Reefland recommended you.

Thanks for the help Scott.

Let me confirm this setup with you-

Sunlight supply Dual 250W ballast
2 Reef optic 2 reflector
2 10000K Aqualine (german) bulbs

Is the aqualine bulb a little more blue then the ushio?

and on Ocean encounters site it mentions ballast only do I get all the necessary hardware with the reflector?

Don't mean to be a pain, just want to make sure my 500 bux is well spent...

Thanks Again, Mike

I didn't see a dual 250w special so let me break it down this way:

SLS Dual 250w Pulse Start Ballast:
http://oceanencounter.com/Merchant2/...tegory_Code=SL

SLS Reef Optix II Reflector for Mogule Bulbs:
http://oceanencounter.com/Merchant2/...egory_Code=RSC

AB 10k 250w Mogule Bulb:
http://oceanencounter.com/Merchant2/...egory_Code=MHB

My experience with the Double-Ended HQI lights is that the AB is a bit more blue than the Ushio.

Purchasing these items, the only thing you will need to get them installed are 8 stainless screws for the reflectors. They already have holes drilled through them for easy mounting. I think you would be most pleased with this configuration.

Thanks Scott,

I spoke to Vince today, and his wife, I think Chris...

She hooked me up with:
2 250W Icecap HQI ballasts
2 AB 10000K bulbs and
2 Pfo Optimal reflectors

All for $479 and some change....

Only thing I nees to add is a power cord to the ballasts and of course mount the reflectors!

Thanks for all your help and the Great tip on Ocean Encounter!!!

Mike

Yeah with the IC ballast you will need 3 prong power cords. You should be able to pick these up at any hardware store. If you can't find them ready to wire, just get 3 prong extension cords and cut off the end.

Glad to hear you got a nice set-up, let us know how it works out!

I have bought my Hamilton bulbs from Steve at coralreefecosystems . I have bought 400 watters as well as 250 watt bulbs. These bulbs are made in Belgium.
