Do you guys know if there is a reflector like that available without the mogul socket? I don't need the mogul, just a reflector. Thx.

This is misinformation that is far too rampant. Spider-Light reflectors (and clones) are among the most unbalanced and lowest output ones made.Originally posted by organicreefer
halide bulbs have very little light coming out of the front and back of the bulb-and the spiderlight is designed to spread the light to the sides ,so in effect youll be sending alot of youre light right through the front and back glass panes.....
The parallel style is more effective generally speaking. Somewhat defies logic, but I have plenty of data to prove it.

I just purchased 3 from www.hellolights.com
perry-hhmmm-what part of my statement in particular is misinformation?as far as the front and back light spread-thats been"common knowledge" amongst indoor gardeners for years...is it incorrect?-i seem to be able to see the difference with my own eyes......
maybe the reflectors youre speaking of are just better than the spiderlights? if youre gonna chime in and say somethings wrong -at least show us whats right

That may be "common thought", but is really not necessarily correct. Light is given off from the lamp the shape of the arc-tube. Using the lamps in a perpendicular reflector is against its nature, and light output can be utilized better in other systems. Spread may be slightly better, but its at a large loss of intensity.Originally posted by organicreefer

Unfortunately I can't put any info out there for people and be seen as unbiased, just the nature of working in the field. Luckily we have people who can, and do.

Sunlight supply
yes -but the ends of the arc tube-the front and back-are darkened with opaque glass and shadowed by the connections-and i can see the difference with my own eyes when i turn my hps setup perpendicular and horizontal in my closet.
as a matter of fact i know a couple guys that run their hps slightly at an angle-front down-because less light comes from the back than the tip of the bulb -and it creates a better spread.
perhaps the horizontal reflectors tested better -but i dont think its because they are horizontal-its probably just a more efficient reflector.
i could be wrong though-i found a couple things in this hobby so far that defy logic.......
