what about the in tank brine shrimp hatchery? I got one and have started to use it. It is kind of crappy as I can see it potentially releasing shells into my water, and I had to glue on the airline hose so it would stay put, but other than that it seems like it will slowly feed the tank... whats the 411 on these guys?

You mentioned the important and significant downside -- the shells. The shells, or cysts, are not digestible and can cause blockage in the intestinal track. Blockages can cause death. The separation of the shell away from the brine shrimp is very important.

I've seen the device and purchased one. I think that, after hatching brine shrimp the 'usual way' and separating out the shells, that dripping them into a marine aquarium would be far better than the continuous hatching concept. Just my opinion.

Yeah, I hear ya. The one I bought is a poor design. Easy to knock off the suction cup, plus the airline keeps detaching when I go to take it out... this leads to spillage -uh oh! On top of that light gets in all over and brine shrimp swim to the top of the breeding chamber instead of the exit tube. On top of all that it looks like poopy in my tank. Gona try movin it to my refuge.
