Google can be a pain sometimes.
I narrowed the 23,000+, although wandering through the 23,000+ more might be found. I've played around putting the word "photo" in the search. I narrowed the search in the Advanced Search options as: with all the words: female with the exact phrase: Scott's Fairy Wrasse I get 96 hits that way. Most are just text 'female' with male photos. But if wandering through that list, a female photo can be discovered now and then, like this one: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/cirrhilabruspt2.htm That female Scott's looks more green then the one's I'm used to seeing. I'm heading up to Los Angeles in an hour to buy fish and will look around. I get into wholesalers on a regular basis there and see what is coming through. Most the females coming through are, as I mentioned before, the same (midnight bluish) as the male but without the pink spot. (Most the males coming through aren't vivid and the 'red' spot is usually pink. Probably their normal intensity when not fighting other males or courting.) So far, I've not seen a dead one. They all seem to come through shipping very well. Your own post in 2001? on Reefland.com comes up on the Google 'hit list.' Cheers!

Why not simply use google's image search? When using the image search feature, start with the scientific name and then after you have finished going through those hits, repeat the procedure with the English common name. I suppose you could try again with the common names in various other languages, too. Be aware that many photos will be misidentified, especially when it comes to invertebrate pictures posted by hobbyists. That's why I always start out with the scientific name first, and even that will return some false ID's. Quote:

Yes, that can be annoying. I hate searching for information and getting my own posts back. Just for kicks, next time you google something, add "Ninong" at the end and see what happens. Whenever I want to find all of my posts on something on the various boards and I don't feel like using their search engines, I simple use google and add my board name to the search. Works like a charm. My thread on my Starphire tank used to be among the first three or four hits returned when you searched for "Starphire tanks" but if you tack on my board name, you will definitely get all of my posts on virtually any topic. Try it using your board name and see what you can find. When you think about it, this is scary. For example, all of the "political" threads in the Anything But Reefkeeping forum are accessible to the various search engines. Who knows, some of us may have our own FBI files by now???

yeah it is not so easy finding the females cooks island pic. i did see those on wetweb, yep all males. i dont think my tank is big enough for 5 and it seems 3 will have almost the same results as a single male, as far a fading in coloration. i dont think i will be getting these at this time. they would have been an online buy so i would have to wait till after i bought them to see them, later for sure. i can not help but think that with my luck i would end up with 3 males. i think it would be best to just wait and perhaps the LFS will get them in one day so i can pick the colors and sexes i want. after rethinking its just too much money to take such a risk, when i called them they told me that they could not say for sure i would get a female or male so i will just wait. although now i will start to put a bug in the LFS ear about getting a few in so i can see them first. thanks ninong you have been a huge help. i will still be getting these, maybe end up with the australian varient. yours looked pretty sweat, but will wait to see them at a LFS, hopefully in the near future. i will be persistant with the LFS, hehe make them so frustrated he will get some in just to shut me up. but he will win in the end if i buy them so its all good.
hey ninong how are things since katrina? i am a CCU RN and was there helping out, doing what i could anyway, during the 10days after katrina with the red cross. hope things are getting back togather. i take it you are not in the middle, just from the fact your fish did not return to the "ocean". i know most have forgotten about all that still needs to be done. it still make me mad how our leaders in our goverment let so many people down, costing so many lives that could have been saved. sorry dont want to but a downer on this post, lots of great info here. just concered about how things are over there now? Your tank is big enough for five but three would be better, otherwise you would be restricted in what else you could keep. These fish are very active swimmers and I don't believe they should be kept in the small tank sizes (typically 30 gallons) that the vendors recommend. That might work for a small (<3"TL) specimen but not for mature Scotts Fairy Wrasses, where the males will be over 5"TL and the females over 4"TL.
As far as the colors fading, mine faded only a little bit. It wasn't really bad at all. And my Lineatus didn't fade at all. The Lineatus females are really gorgeous and almost as colorful as the males. In fact, almost the entire Cirrhilabrus genus is attractive. Most fairy wrasses have spectacular coloration. P.S. -- As far as Katrina is concerned, I'm about 55 miles west of where the center of the eye passed. All we got was 110 mph winds and some damage here and there. We were without power for only four days but most of the immediate area was without power for a month. Other nearby areas closer to the eye were without power a lot longer. Forty percent of the homes in the city of New Orleans are still without power today. Flooded cars still litter neighborhoods in New Orleans and in some parts of the city nothing has been done at all. It has been a disaster in more ways than one.
